Issue that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix fixes the following issue that is not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

Consider the following scenario:

• You create a site content type in Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
• You add a column to the site content type from an existing site column that is set to a non-required column.
• You set the newly added site column as a required column.
• You create a new document library.
• You use the newly created site content type in the document library.

In this scenario, you can still save a document in the document library even if the required column does not contain information.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
