On This PageSYMPTOMSOn a Windows XP-based computer, you may be unable to start any console-based applications. For example, when you try to start the Cmd.exe and Ping.exe applications, the applications may not start as expected. Additionally, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).
RESOLUTIONHotfix informationA supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article.
