To resolve this problem, follow these steps: - Visit the Windows Update Web site to make sure Windows is up to date:
- Verify that the Windows Firewall service is started. To do this, follow the steps for your operating system:
Windows XP- Click Start, click Run, type services.msc in the Open box, and then click OK.
- Double-click Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS).
- View the Service status. If the service is stopped, click the START button.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue. - Click Services.
- Double-click Windows Firewall.
- View the Service status. If the service is stopped, click the START button.
- Again try to install the Zune software.

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
- Start the Windows installer Clean Up Utility. To do this, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Install Clean Up.
- In the Windows Installer Clean Up dialog box, select the following items:
- (All Users) Zune [Version number]
- (All Users) Zune Language Pack (ES) [Version number]
- (All Users) Zune Language Pack (FR) [Version number]
- Click Remove.
- Click the Exit button.
- Empty the Windows temporary folder:
- Click Start, click Run, type %temp% , and then click OK.
- In the window that opens, click Select All on the Edit menu.
- On the File menu, click Delete.
- Click Yes when you receive the following message:
Are you sure you want to send these items to the Recycle Bin?
- Reinstall the Zune software.
