SYMPTOMS

On a Windows Server 2003-based computer, the Win32_Environment Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) class does not return the value of the PATH environment variable. This situation occurs if the PATH environment variable contains more than 1,024 characters.

Some applications may not work correctly if they rely on the Win32_Environment WMI class to return the PATH environment variable. For example, when you deploy the Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 agent, the deployment process may fail.

CAUSE

The PATH environment variable is limited to 1,024 characters. This can consist of 1,023 characters and a terminating null character.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information
