INTRODUCTION

This article describes how to upgrade the Hyper-V beta build from Windows Server 2008 RC1 to Windows Server 2008 RTM.

Note The Hyper-V beta build that is included with Windows Server 2008 RC1 with Hyper-V Beta is the same build as is included with Windows Server 2008 RTM. The RTM version of Hyper-V will be available within 180 days of the release of Windows Server 2008.

To upgrade the Hyper-V beta build from Windows Server 2008 RC1 to Windows Server 2008 RTM, follow these steps:
  1. Shut down any virtual machines that are currently running.
  2. Use the Hyper-V Manager console to export the virtual machines and the configuration files to a data volume.
  3. Format the operating system volume, and then install the Windows Server 2008 RTM build.
  4. Use the Server Manager to install the Hyper-V role.
  5. Re-create all virtual network switches.
  6. Use the Hyper-V Manager console to import the virtual machines and the configuration files.
  7. Start the virtual machines, and then upgrade the integration components.
