INTRODUCTION

This article discusses several unsupported methods to update a customized image of Windows Vista to a Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) image.

Note The original customized image is based on the release version of Windows Vista.

Windows Vista SP1 does not support the following deployment practices:

You mount an offline image of the release version of Windows Vista, and then you install or integrate Windows Vista SP1 into the offline image.
You install Windows Vista SP1 or any of the pre-Windows Vista SP1 packages during the offline-servicing phase of setup.
You use the Pkgmgr.exe utility to add Windows Vista SP1 or any of the pre-Windows Vista SP1 packages to an offline image of Windows Vista.
You use the /integrate parameter to create Windows Vista SP1 integrated media.

Note Instead, you should obtain the Windows Vista SP1 media directly from Microsoft.
