Article ID: 951065 - Last Review: January 20, 2012 - Revision: 3.2 Error message when you try to use the Advanced Find function to add contacts to a marketing list in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "An error has occurred"
SYMPTOMSWhen you try to use the Advanced Find function to add contacts to a marketing list in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you receive the following error message:
An error has occurred. CAUSEThis problem occurs because Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 uses the FetchXml statement when you add contacts to a marketing list. The FetchXml statement is also used to retrieve records in the Advanced Find window. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 uses this statement to retrieve all entity identifiers (IDs) that are returned from a query. A view is modified to include a column from a related entity. Therefore, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 tries to add an attribute from the related entity to the ColumnSet property of a queried entity. However, Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 cannot add child attributes to the ColumnSet property of a primary entity. RESOLUTIONThis problem is fixed in the latest cumulative update rollup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0.
