When a Windows Server 2008-based terminal server is running under a heavy load for a long time (about eight hours), an error occurs in the memory manager. In this situation, you receive the following Stop error message:
This issue occurs because of a race condition that is triggered when the memory manager deals with certain kinds of images. Specifically, a thread in one terminal server session searches for an entry in the Viphook.dll file. At the same time, a thread in another terminal server session deletes this entry. Because of this synchronization issue, the first thread returns a value of NULL.
