.......

User: [Domain]\[User] [authentication type: NTLM]
Exception Message: TF50309: The following account does not have sufficient permissions to complete the operation: [Domain]\[User]. Check the permissions for the account and grant the appropriate permissions to perform this operation. (type UnauthorizedAccessException)
Exception Stack Trace: at Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Server.SecurityManager.CheckGlobalPermission(IPrincipal user, String actionId)
at Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Server.Registration.GetRegistrationEntries(String toolId)...

Cause

As part of the of a build, access privileges of the account configured to run the build are verified by a call to the Registration web service on the Team Foundation Server application tier machine. This is the call to http://tfsappprod:8080/Services/v1.0/Registration.asmx seen in the event log entry. In this case, the account configured to run the build does not have sufficient rights to do so.

Resolution

The account that the build machine runs the service TfsBuildService.exe under needs permissions to your TFS Application Tier. Add that account to the TFS "Build Services" group for the team project of the failing build.
