You experience issues when you try to archive digital photos or to burn a VCD from a Photo Story slide show in Digital Image

You try to archive digital photos or to burn a video CD (VCD) from a Photo Story slide show in Microsoft Digital Image. When you do this, you may experience one or more of the following symptoms.

• The VCD burns quickly and you receive a message that states that the burn was completed successfully. However, the VCD is blank and no files are actually burned.
• You try to burn files after you receive a message from the CD or DVD burning device that states that the device cannot burn. When you do this, the CD or DVD burning device is not recognized as a valid burning device.
  
  When you locate the CD or DVD burner drive, you receive an error message that resembles the following error message:
  Unable to write to this location. Access denied.
• You receive an error message that resembles the following error message:
  Digital Image Library could not detect writable media in the drive you selected. Make sure the removable media is blank and is properly inserted into the selected drive, and then click Retry.
• The VCD burn is unsuccessful.
• You receive an error message that resembles the following error message:
  An error has occurred while burning your files to archive media. Digital Image Library is unable to finish the burn process. See help for troubleshooting.
  Additionally, the Sonic error "16006: No Free Blocks" is logged in the archive log.
• The VCD burning operation successfully completed. However, only some selected photos are copied.

These issues occur for one or more of the following reasons:

• This issue occurs if a user lacks administrative credentials or if a user account is corrupted.
• This issue occurs if no CD is inserted in the drive that is being enumerated.
• This issue occurs because the CD-R device does not function correctly if a burn session is ended without the correct release of the device.
• This issue may occurs if you do not have specific version of Digital Imaging
• This issue occurs if the removable media is not blank. For example, the Nero program does not remove all the contents of a DVD+RW disc by using the Quick-erase rewritable disc option or the Full-erase rewritable disc option.
• This issue occurs because the computer has to be restarted.
• This issue occurs if there are too many temporary files or if the hard disk is almost out of disk space. The Sonic software copies all the photos that you want to archive to the Temp folder before it burns them to the CD. The Sonic software is incompatible with several CD burning devices. Contact Sonic Software to find out what device it is incompatible.
• This issue occurs because the Sonic software does not archive a photo that contains an ampersand (&) character in its file name.

To resolve this issue in Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note Many features of the Digital Image product line have been added to Windows Vista. This procedure is an alternative option for Photo Story to burn the VCD on a computer that is running Windows Vista.

To publish and to burn a movie to a VCD, follow these steps:

1. Insert a blank recordable VCD or a rewriteable VCD into your CD burner.
2. Click File, and then click Publish Movie.
3. Click Recordable CD, and then click Next.
4. In the File name box, type the name that you want to use for your movie.
5. In the CD Name box, type the name that you want to use for the VCD, and then click Next.
6. Click the settings that you want to use to publish your movie, and then click Publish.
7. To publish and to burn the movie to another recordable VCD, click to select the Publish this movie to another recordable CD check box, and then click Next. Replace the recordable VCD with another recordable VCD in the CD drive, and then repeat steps 4 through 6.

Additionally, you can use the Photo Gallery feature that is available in Windows Vista to create a slide show and to burn it onto a VCD.

To resolve this issue in Windows XP, use one of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Note If the following methods do not resolve the issue when you use the Archiving or VCD feature in Digital Image, the product has been discontinued, and no new version of updates will be released.

If you bought the product within the last 45 days and if the following methods do not resolve the issue, you can return Digital Image at the point of purchase.

Method 1: Grant administrative rights

To resolve this issue, grant administrative rights to the user, or create a new user account that has administrative rights.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

To grant administrative rights to the user, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
   control admintools
3. Double-click Computer Management, expand System Tools in the navigation pane, and then expand Local Users and Groups.
4. Click Users, and then double-click the user name in the details pane.
5. Click the Member Of tab, and then click Add.
6. Click Advanced, and then click Find Now.
7. In the list, click Administrators, and then click OK two times.

To create a new user account that has administrative rights, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
   nusrmgr.cpl
3. Under Pick a task, click Create a new account.
4. In the Type a name for the new account box, type the name for the account, and then click Next.
5. Click Computer administrator, and then click Create Account.

Method 2: Use third-party software

To resolve this issue, use a different burning device, or archive digital photos to the hard disk. Then, use third-party burning software to burn the files to a CD.

Use the Disk Cleanup tool to remove temporary files and any nonessential programs or files to free hard disk space.

Method 3: Remove ampersand characters

To resolve this issue, search for and then remove any ampersand (&) characters from the photo file names. Then, try to archive the photo files.
