SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running a Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)-based computer.
  • You connect a USB memory card reader to the computer, or you use a built-in memory card reader.
  • You start Windows Media Center to import pictures or video from the memory card reader.
However, when you browse to the folders that are located on the drives of the memory card reader, Windows Media Center may display one of the following error messages:
No pictures were found.
No videos were found. Either there are no videos, or you are viewing an empty folder.
Notes
  • This problem does not occur in the release version of Windows Vista.
  • The error message that is displayed depends on the kind of folder that you are trying to view.

CAUSE

In Windows Vista SP1, Windows Media Center displays drive letters for all the media slots on the computer. This includes the slots that are currently empty. Therefore, when you use Windows Media Center to view picture or video libraries on any drives that prove to be empty, you receive one of the error messages from the "Symptoms" section.

STATUS

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem does not harm the system. When you view the folders on the drive from the memory card reader, Windows Media Center functions correctly.
