SYMPTOMS

You run VBScript or JScript scripts by using CScript or WScript on a computer that is running one of the following products:
  • Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • Windows Server 2008
  • Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3)
When you do this, the script output is not displayed in the format that is specified by the language locale that you have configured.

This problem occurs when the language locale that you configured differs from the language of the operating system.

Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 file information notes

  • The files that apply to a specific product, milestone (RTM, SPn), and service branch (LDR, GDR) can be identified by examining the file version numbers as shown in the following table:

  • GDR service branches contain only fixes that are broadly released to address widespread, critical issues. LDR service branches contain hotfixes in addition to broadly released fixes.
  • The .manifest files and the .mum files that are installed in each environment are listed separately in the Additional file information for Windows Server 2008 and for Windows Vista section. These files and their associated .cat (security catalog) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component. The .cat files are signed with a Microsoft digital signature. The attributes of these security files are not listed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem for VBScript, use the SetLocale function to set the language locale that you want before you use VBScript built-ins.

For example, the following script sets the language locale to English (United Kingdom) and then uses the VBScript built-ins.
SetLocale(2057)
Wscript.Echo "Date is:" & DateValue(Now)
Wscript.Echo FormatCurrency(123.45)
Currently, you cannot work around this problem for JScript.

To configure the language locale, set the Standards and formats option to the language locale that you want on the Regional Options tab in the Regional and Language Options item in Control Panel. When you do this, all numbers, currencies, dates, and times should be displayed in the format that is specified by the new language locale.

The problem that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section affects the following items:
  • VBScript built-ins such as FormatCurrency, FormatDateTime, FormatNumber, and FormatPercent
  • The concatenation of a string with the results of built-ins such DateValue and TimeValue
  • JScript built-ins such as toLocaleString
For example, suppose that you set the Standards and formats option to English (United Kingdom). The language locale of the operating system is English (United States). Because of this change, the output for Number, for Currency, for Short Date, for Long Date, and for Time should change.
