SYMPTOMS

You have a Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 2005-based Automation program that uses OLE technology. You use the Automation program to perform a project-level file check-in operation. However, the project files appear to check in without updating the file content or the file history. When you examine the file properties, you notice that the files are checked out exclusively.

Note This problem only occurs for files that have been updated earlier in Microsoft Visual SourceSafe 6.0.

CAUSE

This problem may occur because of a problem with the Auto-detect encoding of local file feature.

Turn off the Auto-detect encoding of local file feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1.Right-click the file, and then click Properties.
2.Click the General tab, click to clear the Auto-detect encoding of local file check box, and then click OK.
3.Repeat steps 1 and 2 for all files in the project.

Method 2

Update the files in the project individually by checking in a new file version one time. After the files are updated one time by using Visual SourceSafe 2005, updates that use the project check in method should occur.
