Description of the MUI for the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client update for Windows XP Service Pack 2

This article describes the Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI) for the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2).

The Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client update helps you use the new Terminal Services features that are introduced in Windows Vista and in Windows Server 2008 from a computer that is running Windows XP SP2.

The MUI provides a user interface for the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client update that is installed on a computer that is running an x86-based version of Windows XP SP2. The MUI provides this user interface in the following languages:

The MUI language packs run only on MUI versions of Windows in which the Windows interface can be displayed in multiple languages. If you are running a MUI version of Windows, install the English version of the Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 client update, and then install the MUI for Remote Desktop Connection 6.1.

Prerequisites

To install this update, you must have the following products installed:

• Windows XP SP2
• Windows XP Service Pack 2 Multilingual User Interface Pack
• The English version of Remote Desktop Connection 6.1

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Update replacement information

This update does not replace a previously released update.

Installation folders

The files for each language are installed in the following folders: The %windir%\System\locale folder contains the binary files for the language. The %windir%\Help\Mui\locale folder contains the Help files for the language.

Known issues

Issue 1

After you install the MUI for Remote Desktop Connection 6.1, the Remote Desktop Connection shortcut text on the Start menu always appears in English.

Issue 2

If you update from Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 to Remote Desktop Connection 6.1 and if you run a system restore procedure, the system restore procedure fails to restore the Remote Desktop Connection client to Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 together with the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 MUI.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

1. Perform the system restore procedure to the point at which you had Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (KB 925876) and the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 MUI (KB925877) installed.
2. Uninstall the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 MUI (KB 925877).
3. Uninstall Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (KB 925876).
4. Reinstall Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 (KB 925876).
5. Reinstall the Remote Desktop Connection 6.0 MUI (KB 925877).
