The installation fails when you use the unattended mode to try to install System Center Configuration Manager 2007 International Client Pack

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:

You run Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 by using a named instance of Microsoft SQL Server as the Configuration Manager database.
No default instance of SQL Server is installed on the server that hosts the Configuration Manager database.
You use the unattended mode to try to install Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 International Client Pack (ICP) 1 or Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 International Client Pack (ICP) 2 on a site server that is running an English version of System Center Configuration Manager 2007.

In this scenario, the installation fails.

Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Smssetup.log file:

Unattended ICP installation on Primary site detected.
The NT machine computer name that's running the SQL server is down.
The Windows server computer name that is running the SQL Server is down or not on the network, or your current Windows logon ID does not allow you to access the Windows server.

Note The problem still occurs even after you apply hotfix 950531.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Lcpsetup.exe program tries to query data against the default instance of SQL Server. If the default instance is not installed, the installation process fails.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next System Center Configuration Manager 2007 service pack that contains this hotfix.
