When you extract files from MDM 2008 Resource Kit Client Tools or from MDM 2008 Resource Kit Server Tools, you may no longer be able to start or restart the server

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario:
You extract files from Microsoft System Center Mobile Device Manager (MDM) 2008 Resource Kit Client Tools or from MDM 2008 Resource Kit Server Tools to a root drive on a server. For example, you extract these files to drive C or to drive D.
These files come from a version of the MDM Resource Kit that was downloaded before April 30, 2008.
In this scenario, you may no longer be able to start or restart the server.

RESOLUTION

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

DownloadDownload the System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008 Resource Kit - Client Tools package now. (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D07E6997-836A-4ABE-84F3-B563E976B131&displaylang=en)

Microsoft scanned these files for viruses. Microsoft used the most current virus-detection software that was available on the date that the files were posted. The files are stored on security-enhanced servers that help prevent any unauthorized changes to the files.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, extract the files for the System Center MDM into a subfolder under the root folder that was created specifically for MDM tools. You will need administrative permission to access that folder.
