INTRODUCTION

Issues that the hotfix package fixes

This hotfix package fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • The System account is added as the site collection administrator. This issue occurs when you create the site collection by using the Self-Service Site Creation feature when the required secondary contact is enabled in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
  • You try to render the view of a custom list. When you do this, you may receive the following error message:
    Render failed
This issue occurs when the following conditions are true:
    • The list is grouped by one of the columns.
    • You try to display the sum of all the values of a single column.
    • The list contains more than the limit for the number of columns that have a certain data type.
For example, in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, the limit for the number of columns that have the "float" data type is 12. Therefore, this problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
    • The list is grouped by one of the columns.
    • You try to display the sum of all the values of a single column.
    • The custom list contains 13 columns that have the "float" data type.
Note The table at the end of the "More Information" section describes the limits for the number of columns for various column types in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.
  • On a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, you publish a document as a major version. You modify the published document and then save it as a minor version. After you do this, you cannot open the published document from the Version History page.

This issue occurs when the document is larger than 5 MB.
This hotfix together with hotfix 952704 also fixes the following issues that were not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
  • On the Manage Content and Structure page of a Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 site, you cannot move a link to another destination in the Links list library.
  • When you are running multiple content deployment jobs in parallel, some deployment jobs may fail randomly.
  • You can run an incremental content deployment job to deploy content from one site collection into another site collection. However, the incremental content deployment job fails after you perform one of the following operations in the source site collection:
    • You create a new page that uses a name that was previously used by another page on the source site collection.
    • You delete a site and then create a new site that uses the same name that was used by the deleted site.
    • You delete a document in a folder and then delete the folder from a document library.
  • You enable the Variations feature in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0. When you try to propagate the pages, Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 may stop responding.
  • You upgrade Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 to Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007. Then, you edit a 2007 Office Open XML Format file in the upgraded document libraries for the first time. When you do this, the document library field values are overwritten by the document property values. This condition causes data loss.
  • The content deployment fails after you disable compression in the content deployment path definition.
  • You delete and then restore a publishing page from the Recycle bin on a publishing portal. When you do this, the incremental deployment fails.
  • In Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, you enable and then disable a feature that creates a content type. If you never use this content type on the site, the content type and the custom fields that the feature defines are deleted.

Because the content type is not used on the site, the custom fields are marked for deletion when they are imported. However, the deletion operation fails.
  • In SharePoint Server 2007, you run a quick deployment job to deploy one or more pages. Then, you try to run a quick deployment job on another page while the previous job is running. When you do this, the deployment job fails.

Additionally, you receive the following error message:
Object reference not set to an instance.
Note The pages from the failed job are deployed.
  • When you run a content deployment job, several columns are duplicated.

Note These columns are standard publishing columns and not custom columns.
  • When you perform a copy or move operation on publishing pages, the operation takes 20 minutes to finish.

Additionally, during the copy or move operation, the site is very slow. The site is sometimes unresponsive even to regular site requests.
Note To resolve these issues, you have to install both hotfix 952698 and hotfix 952704.

952704 Description of the SharePoint Server 2007 hotfix package: May 20, 2008
Hotfix 952698 together with hotfix 952704 also provides a design change that enables a content deployment job to maintain the ghosted state of the following items:
  • Master pages
  • Layouts
  • Style library items
  • Image library items
This is true for every full deployment, not only for the first full deployment.

Known issue that occurs after you apply the hotfix

Symptoms
You add a custom list as a Web Part on the home page of a Windows SharePoint Services site. Then, you try to edit the current view of the custom list by clicking Edit the current view. When you do this, the Create View page is opened. However, you expect the Edit View page for this custom list to be opened.
Workaround
To work around this issue, edit the list view before you add the custom list to a Web Part on the home page of the Windows SharePoint Services site. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Remove the Web Part that contains the custom list from the home page.
  2. Open the custom list, and then click Modify this View.
  3. On the Edit View page, make the changes that you want, and then click OK.
  4. Re-add the custom list to a Web Part on the home page.
This issue is scheduled to be resolved in updates and hotfixes that are released after June 30, 2008.
