Description of the grace period and the enforcement level of a Windows XP Home Edition subscription computer
INTRODUCTIONThis article describes the grace period and the enforcement level of a subscription computer. Note In this article, a computer that is running Windows XP Home Edition for Subscription Computers is known as a "subscription" computer. MORE INFORMATIONWhen a subscription computer starts for the first time, the provisioning server generates a configuration packet, and the computer downloads the packet. The configuration packet contains parameters for the configuration of the subscription computer, such as the enforcement level and the grace period (in minutes). The enforcement level of the subscription computer determines how much time that the computer can spend in reduced functionality mode (RFM). The following list shows the relationship between the enforcement level of the computer and the time that the computer spends in RFM:
Both the enforcement level value and the grace period value are determined by the solution provider. They are preconfigured on the provisioning server, which is hosted by Microsoft, before the subscription computers are manufactured. To see the enforcement level and the grace period of a subscription computer, type lpmtool –b at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
