SYMPTOMS

On a Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2)-based computer, you use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 to browse a Web page. Then, Internet Explorer 6 may exit unexpectedly (crash), and you receive an error message that resembles the following:
Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
When you click click here in the error message to view the data in the error report, the report contains an error signature that resembles the following:

Note This problem does not occur when you disable the Use HTTP 1.1 option in Internet Explorer 6.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

Windows Server 2003

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
