For System Center Operations Manager 2007 to support Windows Server 2008-based computers, you must install the following:

Several hotfixes for Windows Server 2008
Hotfix 954049 for Operations Manager 2007 SP1

You must install the hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 before you install new Operations Manager 2007 roles for the first time.

Note An in-place upgrade of a Windows Server 2003-based computer that is hosting a System Center Essentials 2007 Service Pack 1-based server to Windows Server 2008 is currently not supported.

Assume that you perform an in-place upgrade to Windows Server 2008 from a Windows Server 2003-based system that supports Operations Manager 2007. In this case, you must install the Windows Server 2008 hotfixes immediately after the in-place upgrade.

Required Windows Server 2008 hotfixes

The following hotfixes are available for Windows Server 2008 and must be installed on the computer.

Note The hotfixes mentioned in this section are included in Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2. You do not have to install these hotfixes if you have installed this service pack.

Hotfix 954049 for Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007

You must install the Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007 hofix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 954049.

This hotfix provides support for a clean installation of Operations Manager 2007 and Essentials 2007 on a Windows Server 2008-based computer.

Description of the hotfix rollup package for System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 and for System Center Essentials 2007 Service Pack 1: July 25, 2008

Note You must install the hotfix only after you upgrade to Windows Server 2008. The hotfix installation reregisters Operations Manager and Essentials performance counters on Windows Server 2008. If you installed the hotfix before an in-place upgrade, you must reinstall the hotfix after the in-place upgrade.
