SYMPTOMS

In a network environment, you deploy the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol version 6 (DHCPv6) solution. This solution uses Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). However, on a Windows Vista-based or Windows Server 2008-based DHCP client computer, you may find that some network-related parameters are configured incorrectly. Therefore, you cannot access the network correctly.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the DHCPv6 client sends the domain name in the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) format. However, this format does not follow the specification that is defined in RFC 1035 section 3.1.

Important Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 hotfixes are included in the same packages. However, only one of these products may be listed on the “Hotfix Request” page. To request the hotfix package that applies to both Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, just select the product that is listed on the page.
