This article describes how to identify and enable disabled Microsoft SQL Server service instances in Microsoft SQL Server 2000.

Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

To determine whether a SQL Server service instance is disabled in SQL Server 2000, follow these steps:

1.	Click Start, click Run, type Services.msc, and then click OK.
2.	In Services, locate the MSSQL$(InstanceName) instance in the Name column. Note InstanceName is a placeholder for the name that the instance of SQL Server was given when it was installed.
3.	To determine whether a SQL Server service instance is disabled, view the Startup Type column. The following values may appear in the Startup type column: • Automatic • Manual • Disabled

To enable a SQL Server service instance in SQL Server 2000, follow these steps:

1.	Click Start, click Run, type Services.msc, and then click OK.
2.	In Services, double-click MSSQL$(InstanceName). Note InstanceName is a placeholder for the name that the instance of SQL Server was given when it was installed.
3.	In the MSSQL$(InstanceName) dialog box, click the General tab.
4.	Click Automatic or Manual. The following options are available in the Startup type list: • Automatic • Manual • Disabled
5.	Click Apply, and then click OK.
