Article ID: 954329 - Last Review: November 6, 2008 - Revision: 1.2 An Audit Collection Service forwarder may be unable to retrieve the distinguished name for the ObjectGUID in the collected events in System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1
On This PageSYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario. An event contains certain fields that are formatted as an ObjectGUID. The ObjectGUID requires a lookup to Active Directory to obtain the distinguished name of the object. A new event is generated when the Audit Collection Service (ACS) forwarder obtains the event. However, immediately after the new event is generated, the lookup value in Active Directory may not be available. In this scenario, a lookup failure occurs, and the forwarder forwards the event that contains the ObjectGUID instead of the distinguished name to the collector. STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2. MORE INFORMATIONHow to create a required registry key on affected agentsThis hotfix lets you create a new registry key on affected ACS Forwarders. This registry key allows for a retry on any ObjectGUID that cannot have its distinguished name resolved on the first attempt. This registry key must be created on all affected ACS Forwarder roles because it does not exist by default. A suggested initial retry value in milliseconds is provided. The retry value may have to be tuned, depending on the environment.Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.
