Communicator 2007 downloads the full offline address book every 30 days

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 downloads the full offline address book (GalContacts.db) every 30 days.

This behavior may cause very high network usage when many Communicator 2007 clients try to download the offline address book at the same time.

Note The local GalContacts.db file is in the following path:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Communicator\

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, install the Communicator 2007 update package that is dated October 24, 2008. After you install the Communicator 2007 update package that is dated October 24, 2008, Communicator 2007 downloads the address book according to the following scenarios:
  • If you do not sign in to Communicator 2007 for more than 30 days, Communicator 2007 downloads the full offline address book.
  • If you sign in to Communicator 2007 within the 30 day period, Communicator 2007 does not download the full offline address book.
