The DVD for 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 2 (SP2)
and the DVD for 2007 Microsoft Office servers SP2 and Windows SharePoint
Services 3.0 SP2 break the routine that was used in the previously released
service pack for 2007 Office applications. These DVDs for SP2 use a more
streamlined approach. The new DVD structure lets users update all Office
products in a single installation operation. Similarly, site administrators or
more advanced users can extract all the SP2 updates (.msp files) and then
decide which updates to apply.
This new approach to the DVD structure
eliminates the need to download and run a separate .exe file for each Office
product that you want to update to SP2. Similarly, if you are running Office
products in more than one language, this new approach will significantly
decrease the number of installations that you have to run. Additionally, this
new approach will save you time (in both downloading and installing) and
bandwidth.
Note There are ReadMe documents on the DVDs themselves that provide
details about which products are updated and how to perform an advanced
installation. If you are an advanced user who plans to use the DVDs to upgrade
your products to the SP2 level, we strongly recommend that you read that
documentation.
To easily update all Office products to SP2, insert the disc
into your DVD drive, and this will automatically start the installer. Next,
accept the Microsoft Software License Terms, and then wait for the installation
to run.
Be aware that it may take a while for this update to run.
Instead of updating a single product, as typical SP2 packages do, this DVD will
update all products. Therefore, be patient while the installation process runs.
Also, make sure that you read the "Known Issues" section in this article for
information about additional issues or behavior that you may
encounter.
If you are an advanced user who wants to install the
updates one-by-one, please see the ReadMe file on the DVD for instructions and
guidance about which updates to install for the products that you want to
update.
Which DVD do I need?
There are a total of six DVDs that contain all the SP2 fixes. Use
the following guidelines to decide which DVDs you want to order:
- If you want to update the Server products, you will have to
select between the 32-bit DVD and the 64-bit DVD. Each of these DVDs contains
all SP2 updates in all languages for all Server products. These include both
2007 Microsoft Office servers SP2 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
SP2.
- If you want to update the desktop products, you must select
a DVD that is based on the languages of the product that you have installed.
See the following table, and make sure that you order the correct DVD:

Note Most Office products include several files from other languages.
For example, the main versions of Office can also do spelling and grammar
checking in several other languages. For example, the Greek version of Office
(on DVD3) also includes German, English, French, and Spanish proofing tools.
Even though these additional languages are on DVD1, you will be fully patched
if you install only DVD3. This is the case because all DVDs have proofing tools
updates for all languages. Therefore,
when you try to decide which DVD to order, you need only the DVD that corresponds to the main languages of the products that you have installed. However, if you have the English version of Office and the
Japanese version of Visio, for example, you must order both DVD1 and DVD2.
How do I obtain the DVD?
Before you order a DVD, see the "Which DVD do I need?" section to
make sure that you are ordering the correct DVD or DVDs. When you know which
DVDs that you want, you can order them by visiting the following Microsoft

Known Issues and Behavior Changes
There are some issues that you should be aware of before and after
you run the DVDs:
- Because so many products are being updated, the DVD may
take a long time to run. Be patient, and wait for a message at the end of the
installation process that indicates that it is complete.
- The Desktop DVD is divided across four languages. However,
because of size restrictions on a single .exe file, each Desktop DVD is divided
into two separate .exe files. If you are running a basic installation, the
first .exe file will automatically call the second .exe file, and in this
manner, all the products will be updated. Because there are two .exe files, you
will encounter several side effects:
- As you perform the installation, you will notice two
sets of dialog boxes. You see a progress bar for a detection phase in which the
.exe file determines which products that you have and which updates that you
need, followed by a progress bar for the installation phase in which those
updates are actually applied. You will then see a second detection phase,
followed by a second installation phase.
- At the end of the installation, you see two dialog
boxes. One dialog box reports the status of each DVD. The other dialog box
reports that the installation was successful (and therefore you may be prompted
to restart the computer), or it reports that there were no products that
required updating. This is the expected behavior, and it means that all the
updates were applied by a single .exe file.
- If you run only the second .exe file, you may not be
fully updated.
- If you are installing the Server update, make sure that
you follow the typical deployment instructions and that you do not run the
PSConfig process until the DVD has been run on all the servers in the server
farm.
- If you experience an error during the installation
process, see the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article for information
about how to check the log files and about what the various error codes mean:

How to investigate and resolve update installation failures for the 2007 Office system or for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0
- You may experience an error when you install 2007
Microsoft Office Suite service packs. This failure occurs when the Windows
Installer encounters a reference either to a disk drive that no longer exists
or to a removable media device that contains no readable media. To prevent this
behavior, we recommend that you install the
Office2007-kb967642-fullfile-x86-glb.exe file (included on the DVD) before you
install the service pack.
- This DVD does not patch the Calendar Printing Assistant for
Outlook, despite the fact that it’s listed in the ReadMe as being patched. If
Calendar Printing Assistant for Outlook users want to be upgraded to SP2, they
should either use
