You may encounter problems when you use the Absconfig.exe tool from the Office Communications Server 2007 Resource Kit Tools component

When you use the Absconfig.exe tool from the Office Communications Server 2007 Resource Kit Tools component, you may encounter one or both of the following problems.

Problem 1

When you try to start the Absconfig.exe tool, you receive an error message that resembles the following:This problem may occur when the Absconfig.exe tool is started after the date of June 13, 2008.

Problem 2

When you click Apply changes on the Configure Attributes tab in the Absconfig.exe tool, the msExchHideFromAddressLists Active Directory attribute is lost from the real-time communications (RTC) database.

Note The msExchHideFromAddressLists attribute can filter objects in the Active Directory directory service. Therefore, the objects are not displayed in the Address Book Data files.

Problem 2

This problem may occur because the entry for the msExchHideFromAddressLists attribute was removed from the RTC database.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

If the hotfix is available for download, there is a "Hotfix download available" section at the top of this Knowledge Base article. If this section does not appear, submit a request to Microsoft Customer Service and Support to obtain the hotfix.

Prerequisites

You can apply this hotfix only on computers that have the Office Communications Server 2007 Resource Kit Tools component installed and that also have one of the following installed:

• Office Communications Server Standard Edition
• Office Communications Server Enterprise Edition (front-end server)

Hotfix installation information

To apply this hotfix, follow these steps:

1. Locate the Absconfig.exe file on the computer.
   
   Note The following is the default location of the Absconfig.exe file:
   %programfiles%\Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007\ResKit
2. Make sure that the Absconfig.exe tool is not running.
3. Use the Absconfig.exe file from this hotfix package to replace the currently installed Absconfig.exe file.

Restart information

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.

Registry information

To use one of the hotfixes in this package, you do not have to make any changes to the registry. The P1 version of this P2 has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

Problem 2

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

1. Start the Absconfig.exe tool.
2. On the Configure Attributes tab, click Restore Defaults.
