The UpgradeTypes rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 (SP2) checks the current setup of a farm and determines what kinds of upgrade are available to the administrator.
Farms support the following kinds of upgrade:
- Inplace upgrade
- Gradual upgrade
- Content database attach
Gradual upgrade has the following limitations:
- Gradual upgrade is not supported on a typical installation.
- Host header sites cannot be upgraded by using a gradual upgrade.
Notes- This rule does not always accurately indicate potential upgrade methods. Additionally, you should not use a gradual upgrade when you upgrade to the next version release that supersedes Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
- Pre-Upgrade Checker ships in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 SP 2. Pre-Upgrade Checker is used to assess the server for potential upgrade issues when you try to upgrade to the next version release that supersedes Windows SharePoint Services and Office SharePoint Server 2007.
