INTRODUCTION

The OSPrerequisite rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 warns you about incorrect operating system prerequisites when you upgrade SharePoint servers.

MORE INFORMATION

When you run Pre-Upgrade Checker, the OSPrerequisite rule provides a list of servers that are in the current server farm that are not running Windows Server 2008 64-bit edition or higher. The information that is displayed in a warning message resembles the following:

This server machine in the farm does not have Windows 6.0 or higher 64 bit edition installed.
Upgrading to Windows SharePoint Services 4.0 requires Windows 6.0 or higher 64 bit edition.

Then, the OSPrerequisite rule suggests that you perform a database attach upgrade. Alternatively, you can add Windows Server 2008 64-bit edition-based Web Front End (WFE) servers into the current farm, and then perform a gradual upgrade.

Note Pre-Upgrade Checker ships in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2. Pre-Upgrade Checker is used to assess the server for potential upgrade issues when you are preparing to upgrade to the next version release of Windows SharePoint Services and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
