INTRODUCTION

TheInvalidHostName rule in Pre-Upgrade Checker for Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2 warns you about an invalid host name that is used in the URL of a Web application.

When you run Pre-Upgrade Checker, the InvalidHostName rule finds a Web application that uses an invalid host name in its URL.

Note An example of an invalid host name is http://localhost.

Then, the InvalidHostName ruledisplays a warning message that resembles the following:

Invalid host names found
Using http://localhost as a site name is not supported, and might cause upgrade to fail. The following Web application uses localhost in its URL and needs to be fixed:
[Web application name]

Then, the InvalidHostName rule suggests that you change the URL to something else.

In order to complete the upgrade, you must rename the Web application or move the content to a different Web application that uses a valid host name in its URL.

Note Pre-Upgrade Checker ships in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 2. Pre-Upgrade Checker is used to assess the server for potential upgrade issues when you are preparing to upgrade to the next version release of Windows SharePoint Services and of Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007.
