The Indexing Service no longer indexes 2007 Office documents after you install the Microsoft Filter Pack for 2007 Office

SYMPTOMS

You install the Microsoft Filter Pack for 2007 Microsoft Office on a Windows Server 2003-based computer. The computer is running the Indexing Service. After you do this, you notice that the Indexing Service no longer indexes 2007 Office documents.

CAUSE

This issue occurs because the Offfiltx.dll file is not registered with Index Server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:

  1. Open Registry Editor.
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\ContentIndex
  3. In the details pane, locate and double-click DLLsToRegister.
  4. In the Value data box, type Drive:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Filters\offfiltx.dll as the last value in the box, and then click OK.

    Note Drive represents the disk partition in which you have installed the Microsoft Filter Pack.
  5. Close Registry Editor.
  6. Restart the Indexing Service.
  7. Run a full rescan on indexed folders.
