On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you perform a backup on a Windows 2008 Server-based computer that uses the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) System Writer, the backup fails with error messages that reference nonexistent files. CAUSEThis problem occurs if registry entries remain from a program that was uninstalled. If the program was not uninstalled successfully, the System Writer may list files to be backed up even though the files have been deleted. For example, McAfee VirusScan 8.5i is known to experience this problem. RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, use one of the following methods. Method 1: Contact the vendorContact the vendor of the program for information about how to clean up the files that are listed in the error messages.
