FIX: The system time may randomly jump forward by several seconds when you run the TIMESVC service on a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device that uses the clock in software mode

Consider the following scenario. You run the TIMESVC service on a Windows Embedded CE 6.0-based device that uses the clock in software mode. You set the system time by using the user interface or by using API functions. In this scenario, the system time may randomly jump forward by several seconds and then start to work as usual. For example, you set the time to 11:11:00 P.M. Then, you may notice that the time jumps as follows: 11:11:03 P.M., 11:11:05 P.M., 11:11:06 P.M., and so on.

This problem occurs because of a rounding operation in the clock. When the device uses the clock in software mode, the system time jumps forward a full second after only several milliseconds have elapsed.

A supported software update is now available from Microsoft as Windows CE 6.0 Platform Builder Monthly Update (July 2008). This update is supported only if all previously issued updates for this product have also been installed.

Restart requirement

After you install this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build menu, click Clean, and then click Build Platform
• On the Build menu, click Rebuild Platform.

You do not have to restart the computer after you install this software update.
