INTRODUCTION

This article describes how Microsoft SQL Server 2008 updates the feature usage data that is collected and sent to Microsoft.

MORE INFORMATION

During SQL Server installation, you can choose to automatically send feature usage reports to Microsoft by using the Usage Reporting feature. If you consent, the Usage Reporting feature will collect and send to Microsoft information about your hardware configuration and about the SQL Server features that are used on your hardware so that Microsoft can identify trends and usage patterns to improve the product. For more information about the Usage Reporting feature, see the SQL Server 2008 Privacy Statement at the following Microsoft Web site:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e7f89bf5-d80c-46b5-a12f-fade6d41330d&DisplayLang=en
Microsoft may provide updates through Microsoft Update that modify the feature usage data that is collected. Such updates may be automatically downloaded and installed on your computer depending on your settings for Automatic Updates. For example, if you consent to send feature usage data, and if you turn on Automatic Updates in Windows XP or Automatic Updates for “Recommended Updates” in Windows Vista, the updates to the feature usage data that Microsoft collects from SQL Server are automatically downloaded and installed on your computer.

Microsoft Update

Microsoft Update is a Microsoft Web site that offers downloads that are available from Windows Update, plus the latest updates for Microsoft Office and other Microsoft programs. For more information about Microsoft Update, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
