SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Windows CE compiler in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to compile C++ source code, you may receive a warning message that resembles following in the output window of the IDE:
Warning C4819: The file contains a character that cannot be represented in the current code page (932). Save the file in Unicode format to prevent data loss.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the last character of an internal compiler buffer is a lead byte.

Note A lead byte is the first byte of a two-byte character in a double-byte character set (DBCS) for the code page.

RESOLUTION

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that this article describes. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
