SYMPTOMS

When you try to use Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Business Intelligence Development Studio to create an Integration Services Connections project, the project is not created. When this problem occurs, you may receive the following exception error message:
Microsoft Visual Studio

Exception of type 'System.Exception' was thrown.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you use one of the following products to create the Integration Services Connections project:
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Workgroup
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Web
You cannot create an Integration Services Connections Project by using these editions of SQL Server 2008.

This behavior does not occur in other Microsoft SQL Server 2008 editions.
