How to disable the ADO.NET Entity Designer from the Visual Studio 2008 Shell (isolated mode) with Service Pack 1

INTRODUCTION

The Microsoft ADO.NET Entity Designer is included in the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Service Pack 1 (SP1) Shell (isolated mode). However, when you run the Visual Studio Shell (isolated mode), the ADO.NET Entity Designer is not supported. This article describes how to disable the ADO.NET Entity Designer.

When you browse to an .edmx file in the Visual Studio 2008 SP1 Shell (isolated mode), and then you open the file, Visual Studio starts the ADO.NET Entity Designer. However, the ADO.NET Entity Designer may fail or stop responding.

To disable the ADO.NET Entity Designer when you build an isolated shell application, add the following GUID to the project.pkgundef file:

Note The project placeholder represents the name of your isolated shell application.
