SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. You have a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer. Additionally, the File Server Resource Manager (FSRM) component and many SCSI logic unit number (LUN) storage objects are installed. In this scenario, when you start the Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer, the Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer crashes. The Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer continuously displays the black screen that has the Windows Server 2003 logo and the gray loading bar.

However, you can start the Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer successfully in safe mode. If you uninstall the FSRM component or if you disable the Datascrn.sys driver in safe mode and then you restart the computer, the Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer starts successfully.

Note To disable the Datascrn.sys driver, change the value of the following registry entry to 4:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Datascrn\Start
