You cannot install a System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 hotfix that includes the System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 Feature Pack when the Automatic Updates service is disabled

SYMPTOMS

On a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows Server 2008, you cannot install a Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 hotfix that includes the System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 Feature Pack. This issue occurs if the Automatic Updates service is disabled.

CAUSE

The Automatic Updates service must be enabled before you install the System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 Feature Pack that is described in Knowledge Base article 949779.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, set the startup type for the Automatic Updates service to Manual or to Automatic before you install a Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 hotfix that includes the System Center Data Protection Manager 2007 Feature Pack.
