The e-mail notifications may contain garbled subject lines if you enable the "Generate subject line with no encoding" option in System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1

Consider the following scenario:

• You enable e-mail notification in a Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 environment.
• In the e-mail notification options, you enable the Generate subject line with no encoding (use if notification e-mails contain malformed subject lines) option.

In this scenario, the e-mail notifications that Operations Manager 2007 sends may contain garbled subject lines.

This issue occurs because the e-mail subject lines are encoded into UTF-8 when the Generate subject line with no encoding (use if notification e-mails contain malformed subject lines) option is enabled.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.This problem was first corrected in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2.

In System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1, you can enable an option to override the text encoding for the subject lines of e-mail notifications. This behavior was introduced because some messaging clients cannot display Unicode characters correctly. When the encoding override option is enabled, Operations Manager 2007 should remove any encoding marks from the subject lines.
