SYMPTOMS

You have a computer that is running Windows Vista. In Windows Explorer, you double-click a .tiff file to open it in Windows Photo Gallery. However, it may take a very long time to load the file. Eventually, the computer may become unresponsive.

If you check the system performance in the system Performance Monitor tool (Perfmon.exe) when this issue occurs, you see an increase in the Virtual Bytes counter for this process and the value of the Available Bytes counter for this process decreases quickly.

Notes
  • This issue occurs if the .tiff file contains a high resolution image or many pages.
  • This issue does not occur if you open the .tiff file directly from Windows Photo Gallery instead of double-clicking the file in Windows Explorer.
