Hebrew text that is formatted as Justified becomes right-aligned when you save a Word 2007 document in the PDF file format or the XPS file format

SYMPTOMS

Consider the following scenario. In a Microsoft Office Word 2007 document, you type some Hebrew text and format the text as Justified. Then you save the document in the PDF file format or in the XPS file format.

In this scenario, when you open the PDF file or the XPS file, the text is right-aligned. Additionally, if a dash appears in the text, the text that appears before the dash is right-aligned. However, the text after the dash is left-aligned. Therefore, a large blank space appears in the text.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Apply hotfix 956064.

  2. Set the value of the UseGlyphsForExport registry entry. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Options
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    4. Type UseGlyphsForExport, and then press ENTER.
    5. Right-click UseGlyphsForExport, and then click Modify.
    6. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.
    7. Exit Registry Editor.
