Hotfix for System Center Operations Manager 2007 SP1 enables monitoring support for IIS 7.0

The hotfix that is described in the "More information" section enables Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1) to manage Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 by using the IIS 7.0 management pack that is available from the System Center Operations Manager 2007 management pack catalog. For more information about this catalog, visit the following Microsoft Web site:This hotfix applies to all Management Server and Gateway server roles. When you apply this hotfix to a Root Management Server (RMS), to a Management Server, or to a Gateway Server, any agents that are installed by using automatic or advanced discovery will await update approval in the pending management node of the Operations Manager console.

To enable IIS 7.0 monitoring of a Windows Server 2008-based computer on which the Operations Manager 2007 SP1 agent has been manually installed, this hotfix must be manually applied. It is especially important that you apply this hotfix under the following circumstances:

• You have a Windows Server 2008-based computer that is running IIS 7.0.
• The computer is monitored by Operations Manager 2007 SP1, and it has the IIS 7.0 management pack installed.

If you do not apply this hotfix in this scenario, a series of Operations Manager Health Service events (event 4507) will be logged in the Operations Manager log.

This hotfix must be applied to each computer that:

• Hosts a Microsoft Operations Manager Root Management server.
• Hosts a Microsoft Operations Manager Management server.
• Hosts a Microsoft Operations Manager Gateway server.
• Hosts a Microsoft Operations Manager manually installed agent (not a Discovery-based agent deployment)

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

To extract the hotfix files that are contained in this hotfix, follow these steps:

1. Copy the SystemCenterOperationsManager2007-SP1-KB957123-X86-X64-IA64-ENU.msi file to either a local folder or an available network shared folder.
2. Run the SystemCenterOperationsManager2007-SP1-KB957123-X86-X64-IA64-ENU.msi file locally on each applicable computer that meets the predefined criteria.

You can run the SystemCenterOperationsManager2007-SP1-KB957123-X86-X64-IA64-ENU.msi file from either Windows Explorer or at a command prompt.

Note To run this file in Windows Server 2008, you must run this file at a command prompt that was executed by using the Run as Administrator option. If you do not execute this Windows installer file under an elevated command prompt, the file will not enable the display of the System Center Operations Manager 2007 Software Update splash screen. Therefore, you will be unable to apply the hotfix.
