FIX: Error message when you use the XMLSchema.Compile method to compile an XML schema (XSD) file: "The content type of the base type must not be a simple type definition"

In the NET Framework 1.1, you call the XMLSchema.Compile method to compile an XML schema (XSD) file that extends a type from simpleContent to complexContent. However, the compilation fails, and you receive an error message resembles the following:

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Prerequisites

You must have the .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer if you install the hotfix for .NET Framework 1.1. You have to restart the computer if you install the hotfix for Windows Server 2003.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace any other hotfixes.

File information

The English version of this hotfix has the file attributes (or later file attributes) that are listed in the following table. The dates and times for these files are listed in Coordinated Universal Time (UTC). When you view the file information, it is converted to local time. To find the difference between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the Date and Time item in Control Panel.

To work around this problem, use .NET Framework 2.0, and then call the XMLSchemaSet.Compile method to compile the XSD file.
