Changes to the custom properties of a program that supports custom properties may not be saved on a Windows XP-based computer

On a Windows XP-based computer, you have a program that supports custom properties, such as Microsoft Office. You add or change the custom properties for the file correctly. However, the changes that you make to the custom properties are not saved.

This problem may occur if the custom property uses ANSI code page characters, and the code page is not the default code page of the system locale.

This problem occurs because the system uses the default code page to review the ANSI code page characters of the custom property. When this occurs, the characters are converted to Unicode. Therefore, the custom property is not saved correctly.

Hotfix information
