Article ID: 957330 - Last Review: September 19, 2008 - Revision: 1.0 FIX: Clients cannot connect to the Report Server Web service in SQL Server 2008 Reporting ServicesBug #: 50003386 (SQL Hotfix) Microsoft distributes Microsoft SQL Server 2008 fixes as one downloadable file. Because the fixes are cumulative, each new release contains all the hotfixes and all the security fixes that were included with the previous SQL Server 2008 fix release. SYMPTOMSYou install Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services. A client makes an anonymous request to the Report Server Web service. The anonymous request is the initial request to the Report Server Web service. In this scenario, the client may receive an error message that resembles the following: HTTP 401 Unauthorized Note This problem can occur when the Report Server Web service receives the initial request directly or by using Report Manager. CAUSEThis problem can occur if the user account that makes the initial request does not have read permissions on the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.MSSQLSERVER If the user account that makes the initial request does not have read permissions on the registry key, the Web service is not initialized correctly.RESOLUTIONThe fix for this issue was first released in Cumulative Update 1.
