Article ID: 957454 - Last Review: January 5, 2009 - Revision: 1.0 Error message when you upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0: "Identifiers cannot be more than 50 characters long"On This PageSYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, you receive the following error message: Identifiers cannot be more than 50 characters long CAUSEThis problem may occur because some schema names exceed the 50 character limit.
During the upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0, the upgrade process has to create a base money calculation field for each currency field that existed on an entity in the previous releases of Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 also enforces a maximum schema name length of 50 characters. However, for the attributes that had schema names close to 50 characters, the Microsoft Dynamics CRM upgrade tries to append a "_Base" suffix for the new base currency calculation attribute. Therefore, the schema names may exceed the 50 character limit.
