Consider the following scenario. You have a computer that is running Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windows Server 2008. You hibernate the computer, and then you resume the computer from hibernation. In this scenario, some USB devices may no longer work correctly. Specifically, you may experience one of the following symptoms:
Some USB devices that are plugged into the computer do not function correctly. Additionally, if you open Device Manager to check the USB device status, they are reported as unknown USB devices.
The system crashes. You may notice that even the system clock in the notification area stops working.
This problem occurs if you plug any USB device into a USB 2.0 hub or if you plug a USB 2.0 device into a root hub.
Notes
Whether you experience any of these issues depends, in part, on your actual hardware configuration.
This problem does not occur if you are running an original release version of Windows Vista that does not have
hotfix 928631 installed.
