A Windows Server 2003-based Domain Name System (DNS) server may crash when the DNS server hosts the forward lookup zones that have the Use WINS forward lookup option enabled.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because of an access violation. The access violation may occur if the DNS server throws a time-out exception when the DNS server processes Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) queries.
