The ConfigMgr Service Manager tool in Configuration Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 cannot query the SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP service, and you receive an "Error communicating with component" error messageArticle ID: 957879 - View products that this article applies to. On This PageSYMPTOMSConsider the following scenario:
Error communicating with component CAUSEWhen SQL Server is not installed on the site server, the computer name of the site server is appended to the name of the SQL Server backup service. Therefore, the actual service name is "SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP_The-name-of-the-Site-Server" instead of "SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP." The ConfigMgr Service Manager tool queries the service name by using Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI). The Component Manager provider (Cmprov.dll) returns SMS_SITE_SQL_BACKUP as the service name. This name does not match the actual SQL Server backup service name on the remote site database server.
