When you insert a storage card that has no partition table into a Windows CE 5.0-based device, the volume may not be mounted successfully.

This problem occurs because the GetDOSPartitions function that is called by the MSPART partition driver returns an ERROR_SUCCESS error code when the storage card has no partition table entry. Therefore, the NULLPART partition driver is not loaded and the volume is not mounted.

Restart requirement

After you apply this software update, you must perform a clean build of the whole platform. To do this, use one of the following methods:

• On the Build OS menu, make sure that the following options are selected, and then click Sysgen.
  • Clean Before Building
  • Copy Files to Release Directory After Build
  • Make Run-Time Image After Build
• On the Build OS menu, click Open Release Directory. Then, at a command prompt, type blddemo clean -q, and then press ENTER.

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this software update.

The MSPART partition driver calls the GetDOSPartitions function to traverse the partition table when the driver opens a storage card.

After you apply this software update, the GetDOSPartitions function will return an ERROR_INVALID_DATA error code. Then, the MSPART partition driver will return an ERROR_DEVICE_NOT_PARTITIONED error code. Eventually, the NULLPART partition driver will handle this volume and mount the volume correctly.
